Why "Kolormondo"?
Have you ever wondered about the name Kolormondo? It means "World of Color" in Esperanto. But why did I choose that name for my invention?
From the beginning, I wanted a real name—not just a descriptive label like The Color Globe. I wanted something unique and memorable. I also wanted it to be linguistically neutral: neither Swedish, my native language, nor English, which has become so dominant internationally. Since I knew the product would be sold around the world, the name also had to be easy to pronounce and understand.
And there was one more reason. I have been a convinced Esperantist for many years.
To me, Esperanto and Kolormondo have a lot in common. Both are based on simple, logical principles. Once you understand them, they stay with you. And both have the power to change the way you see the world—albeit in different ways.
Kolormondo helps you understand and see color in a new, tangible way. Esperanto, on the other hand, can broaden the way you think about people, languages, and cultures. It's a more subtle change, but a rewarding one.
So, in the end, choosing the name was easy. (The logotype above was created by the excellent graphic designer Daniel Bjugård, #danielbjugard.)
Has this made you curious about Esperanto? Recently, on August 1, 2026, The Guardian published an excellent long read about the language and its remarkable community:
