BUILDING THE GLOBE:
- Improves your ability to mix and match colours
- Enables you to identify a certain hue, to see colour relations and grasp terms like ”chroma” and ”value”
- Bridges between colour experts and beginners
- Allows students to understand colour theory
- Facilitates discussions about colour choices

You will find the colour wheel/colour circle around the Equator, while the grey scale forms a pillar between the white North Pole and the black South Pole. Complementary colours are found across from each other. Kolormondo is inspired by the work of Runge, Gothe, and Itten, but we have modernized the globe by using CMY, Cyan blue, Magenta Red and Yellow as primary colours.

The globe comes in a flat cover and is a DIY kit. It consists of 5 round pieces and 6 wedges. Each piece of the globe is designed to teach you about a different section of the colour world. You can take it apart and build it again.

KOLORMONDO® GLOBES AVAILABLE IN SEVERAL SIZES: If you want to know more about the differences between Pro and Mini there is a blog post from Oct 1 2025 here. READ MORE HERE

Mini globe colours the pathway to mood

I am very intrigued with my mini colour globe. I can pull it apart, create colours to match the swatches and create moods out of the colours to reflect feelings.

Such a useful tool

I have used this tool as a visual aid when giving talks on colour to quilters, and on every occasion participants have really valued the 3-D nature and said how if has really helped them to understand the concepts of tones, tints and shades. Wonderful tool. When I can afford it, I want to get the large version!

Good for a sphere, should be lumpier, bad for a textbook

This is a heavy duty, well-printed sphere, intuitive to assemble. It's hard to visually distinguish the hues in either the darkest or lightest rings, except under very bright conditions. It would be more accurate if the shape were more irregularly bulbous, with higher-chroma colors sticking out more, rather than regularly spherical, which forces some high- or low-chroma extremes at different hue angles to seem to be of the same chroma. And the attached printed materials lean toward propagating old falsehoods about only three primary colors in which one set (CMY or RGB) is supposedly "additive" or "subtractive." Sure, the grade-school texts and the backwards dogma of the 1950s perpetuate this blather, but see David Briggs, Bruce MacEvoy, etc.. Use the sphere as a half-correct visual aid and don't use the text at all.
